English and Communication Skills Training for Government Attorneys

Nepal English Language Teachers’ Association (NELTA) coordinated Two-week long English and Communication skills Training for Government Attorneys at Singha Darbar. It was a joint venture of NELTA and the Office of Attorney General supported by the U.S. Department of State.

English Language Specialist, Donna Bain Butler, Ph. D. from U.S. Department of State and Mr. Michael Heyman, Resident Legal Advisor from the US Embassy, Kathmandu facilitated the sessions. Twenty-five Government Attorneys actively participated engaged in the activities designed with the ‘aim to meet participants’ personal goals while developing professional proficiency and effective communication, with special focus on speaking and writing. In addition to the topics and themes designed by the Specialist, the participants were encouraged to develop their own legal topics scaffolding of interest, concern, and challenge.

All the participants’ appreciated the training with a request to organize such advance level training in a regular basis.

The presence and brief remarks of the Attorney General both in the opening and closing program illuminates the requirement of need for English language in any profession particularly in legal profession. Mr. Michael C. Gonzalez, DCM, Charge de Affairs, also shared his happiness to support the Attorneys in effective prosecution of law.
